    Solid free-form fabrication of reinforced plastics

    US researchers are developing an automated prototyping process in which an advanced composite is formed into a freestanding, three-dimensional object. The technique – called composite layer manufacturing (CLM) – does not require moulds, dies or other tooling. In addition, there is usually no need for machining, as the process creates netshapes, the developers say.
