    Tough ceramic mimics mother of pearl

    Scientists working for the US Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) have mimicked the structure of nacre, also known as the mother of pearl, to create the toughest ceramic ever produced.
